Our Santa IS Black

Dear White People,

This post is to address those of you who have expressed issues with public fictional figures and cartoon characters not being of the caucasian persuasion. Let me be clear, once again I have no problem with White people. I have a problem with people who think everything good is white and everything bad is black.

Over the last few years I have seen a huge surge in inclusion in many marketing areas. I am extremely proud when I go into stores and see books with beautiful black boys and girls on the cover and flash cards that look like my children.. Or when I see a commercial and see a rainbow of cultures being represented, it means that those that are in charge are catching on that we are purchasing their products and if they want that to continue we need to see ourselves being represented as well. I realize that it's hard for some of you to comprehend but we matter too. Not we matter and you don't, we matter too; in addition to you.

Some of you have expressed outrage though as it relates to the latest Santa Claus commercial because (clutch pearls) he was black. The shock and dismay of White America. But I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, our Santa IS black. Let me make sure you know first of all that Santa is not real. He’s a fictional character that was made up to make our children behave for about 6 weeks. It may or may not work but nevertheless he’s fictional. In your home yes your santa is white because your parents are white. But our parents and the parents of our children is black so wouldn’t it make sense that our santa would be black as well? There is not a plump jolly white man leaving gifts for our children. There are however plump hard working black men maybe not so jolly leaving gifts for our children. Our children need to look in books and on billboards, and on tv and see people that look like them doing good. The media will without hesitation show them everything bad that is happening in our communities. It has sent them a very distorted message that on a grand scale we are not good people. That is a fallacy. There are great black men and women who are doing amazing things in the world. So your outrage is grossly misplaced.

Please get over it at this point. We are going to continue to fight for our place in society. WE are not going anywhere. You are going to see us in more ads in more commercials in more cartoons being positively represented.

Thank you for understanding….

And if you don’t now you will later.
